Subclass 186 · Employer Sponsored · Permanent Residence
Australia's employer-sponsored permanent residence visa. An approved Australian employer nominates you for a genuine, ongoing skilled role and you are granted PR from day one. No provisional waiting period.
Understanding Your Pathway
The Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) lets approved Australian employers sponsor skilled overseas workers for permanent residence. It runs through three streams. The Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream is for workers who have already held a Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand, formerly TSS) and worked full-time for the nominating employer. The threshold dropped from 3 years to 2 years in November 2024. The Direct Entry stream is for applicants who have not worked in Australia on a 482 but hold a positive skills assessment and at least 3 years of post-qualification experience. The Labour Agreement stream operates where a formal labour agreement is in place. Unlike the 482, the 186 grants permanent residence on grant, so there is no provisional stage to bridge.

Why Choose Commonwealth Migration Group
Employer-sponsored permanent residence involves obligations for both you and your nominating employer. Here is why professionals and businesses across the UAE choose CMG to manage their 186 applications.
Our MARA-registered agents specialise in employer-sponsored migration from the UAE. We map whether TRT, Direct Entry or a Labour Agreement is the realistic route before you or your employer spend money on a nomination.
We manage both sides of the file (the employer nomination and the visa application) so the occupation, salary and evidence line up the first time rather than generating a request for further information.
Employer-sponsored migration carries obligations for years after grant. We explain every sponsorship and nomination obligation in plain language so your employer stays compliant and your PR stays secure.
We never guarantee a visa outcome. What we do is put forward an evidence-led, decision-ready application and tell you honestly when a stream is not available to you.
Common Questions
Everything you need to know about the skilled migration process.
How long must I hold a 482 before applying for the 186?
Under the current Temporary Residence Transition rules you need at least 2 years of full-time work for the same sponsoring employer in the nominated occupation, out of the 3 years immediately before you apply. The threshold was reduced from 3 years in November 2024.
